Ipsat’s lead product is a bioengineered enzyme, which removes the excess unabsorbed harmful antibiotic in intestine and thus maintains a normal intestinal microflora.
The IPSAT™ concept is novel and offers a unique pharmaceutical solution to the consequences of antibiotic treatment. Antibiotic treatment causes changes to the intestinal microflora, which can lead to diarrhoea, overgrowth of pathogenic microorganisms (VRE, Clostridium, Candida) and severe local intestinal infection or colitis. This causes an increase in hospital infections requiring additional antibiotic treatment, an undesired consequence of which is the emergence and spread of resistant microbial strains. An increase in infections and consequent increased morbidity and mortality is especially problematic in the following patient groups: immunocompromised, the elderly and patients with HIV.
