Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE)

VRE in another serious cause of hospital infections especially in the immunocompromised patients and recurrent high-density VRE stool colonisation has been associated with antibiotic therapy. Data also exists to support the role of the indigenous flora in inhibiting growth of VRE.
The attributable cost of intensive unit care associated with VRE infection in USD 33 251 according to a study carried out in Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and an increased length of hospital stay of 27 days.
